Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, Mangalore
Pilikula Nisarga Dhama is a picnic spot located in Mangalore on the Mangalore - Karkala highway. The Pilikula Nisarga Dhama project is a major eco-education and tourism development project promoted by the District Administration of Dakshina Kannada (South Canara) district.
Pilikula literally means "Pond of Tigers" In olden days, Tigers used to come to this pond to drink water. Therefore, this lake came to be known as "Pilikula".
The park is spread over an area of 370 acres comprising of a tropical forest and the enchanting Pilikula Lake. Pilikula has a huge lake and beautifully laid gardens surrounding the entire lake.
The project presently consists of a Biological Park, Arboretum, a Science Centre, a Lake Park with Boating Centre, a Water Amusement Park and a Golf Course. Boating facilities are available in the lake.
Pilikula has a fully operational golf course covering an area of 35 acres of picturesque land near the Pilikula Lake. It offers 9-hole golf course with a total yardage of about 2800 yards. A golf hut is located in the middle of the course.
