Katapadi in Udupi
Katapadi or Katapady is a small town located at a distance of 6 Km towards South from Udupi on National Highway NH-17 in Coastal Karnataka.
Katapadi is a picturesque village surrounded by beautiful untouched beach and lush green fields. Katapadi literally means "Tie it down" in local Tulu language. It is derived from the word Kattu paadi.

One of the main attractions of this village is Chokkadi Shri Mahalingeshwara temple, an ancient temple which has a history of about 12 centuries.
The other important temple of Katapady is Venkataramana Temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the temple has a history of about 3 centuries. The annual fair called Katapadi Rathothsav or Car Festival of Lord Venkataramana is held on Madhvanavami day (Last week of January or First week of Februavry). The festival lasts for seven days and it attracts huge number of devotees. People witness the fair with great devotion.
The other temples of Katapadi are Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Shri Kalikamba Vishawakarmeshwara Temple and Shri Vishwanatha Kshetra. Annual Car festival is celebrated at all temples.
Katapadi is also a place of attractions for Christians. There are two Churches St Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church and CSI Church. The St Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church is 60 years old church and fest is held every year.
