Jogfalls
Jogfalls is the most exciting spectacle in the western region of Karnataka. In the midst of scenic beauty jogfalls attracts the tourist much.
Jogfalls is about 105 kilometers from Shimoga. The river Sharavathi takes a spectacular leap at a height of 292 meters falls in four distinct waterfalls - Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer- to form the fifth highest waterfall in Asia.
The four streams are named according to their perception of trajectories:
1. Raja (King): Named because the "dignified" and "peaceful" fall.
2. Rani (Queen), also known as Lady: The flow has a winding, twisting path, said to resemble the movements of a dancer.
3. Roarer: This stream seems to have a mass of rocks, which caused a lot of noise (hence its name).
4. Rocket: consists of a large volume of water streaming from a small opening at a very high speed.
Jogfalls is a must visit places in Karnataka. The best time to visit these falls is shortly after the monsoon in July and August. The backwaters of the Sharavati Wildlife Sanctuary provide excellent opportunities for water sports.
