Hoovinakere
Hoovinakere is a small village and birth place of popular sage Vadiraja of Dwaitha Philosophy. Hoovinakere is located at a distance of 5 Km from Kumbhashi in Kundapur Taluk, Udupi district. You can find bits and pieces of the places where Vadiraja spent his childhood.
Sage Vaduraja was born in Hoovinakere to a couple Ramacharya and Gowri Devi. Vadiraja was born to the couple after they were blessed by a saint.
It is believed that the saint told that, if Gowri Devi (Mother of Vaduraja) gives birth to a son inside house, then he will take the responsibility of the family, in case she gives birth to a son outside the house or in backyard, then he may pursue the desire of God and happen to be a social reformer. Gowri Devi became pregnant as per the blessings of sage and confined herself to her residence. One day, at the time she was in her final stage of her pregnancy, situation made her to chase the wild animals that had entered into their backyard and there she gave birth to a baby boy (i.e., outside the house).
Therefore the field where Gowri Devi delivered to Vadiraja is known as Gowrigadde. A worship centre in respect of Vadiraja is situated within the same field in Hoovinakere. Vadiraja started to lead a saintly-life from his childhood itself. Even now one can see the places that he used to play during his childhood. Lots of devotees come to Hoovinakere to spend time in serenity. The foot-prints of Vadiraja are still present and it is protected and also a shrine has been constructed in the place.
Vadiraja entered into spirituality during his childhood by saint Madwacharya. Vadiraja began making social reforms. Hoovinakere is becoming a major spirtual as well as worship centre, for the reason that, people have a strong belief that the wishes will become true by the miraculous powers of guru Vadiraja for the people who offer prayer at this place.
You can find a Bhootaraja sanctuary very near to Vadiraja shrine at Hoovinakere, which additionally will get prominence since it had been worshiped by Ramacharya besides Chennakeshava Swamy. A lake situated close to the mutt in Hoovinakere is known as Vadiraja lake and it also is becoming sacred place.
