Hiriyur
Hiriyur is located near Chitradurga in Chitradurga district of Karnataka state.
Hiriyur is well known for Mari Kanive or Vani Vilasa Sagara, an oldest dam built on River Vedavathi. The water on the Mari Kanive dam looks exactly like the pre independence map of India. This dam in Hiriyur was constructed during the rule of the Mysore Wodeyars.
Hiriyur is also famous as a centre for regional (rural) markets also called as 'Santhe'. People gather here to buy and sell the commodities.
Another attraction of Hiriyur include 'Terumalleshwara Temple', a 500 year old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple at Hiriyur attracts many devotees and it is referred as Dakshina Kashi (Kashi of the South).
