Chandragutti

Chandragutti is a beautiful place situated on a rocky mountain bed in Sahyadri ranges and located at a distance of 18 Km from Soraba.
This popular place located on the borders of Siddapura taluk and Soraba taluk. Chandragutti is well known for a temple dedicated to Goddess Renukamba, mother of Parashurama.

Chandragutti is a pilgrimage center where thousands of people visits every year. People who visit this place takes bath in Varada river which is located at a distance of 3 Km from Chandragutti and reach the temple on hill by climbing the steps.

Before visiting the temple, you will get a mutt belonged to the Naga Pantha and then a small shrine dedicated to Kalabhairava. At the end of the steps, you can see a cave and inside this cave the beautiful statue of Goddess Renukamba is worshipped.

You can also visit other shrines located in the temple premises. In front of Renukamba temple, you can see a small shrine dedicated to the Serpent with Seven Hoods (Elu Hede Nagaraja) and Parashurama. The statue of Matangi is located beside the temple.

There does exist one more way for the people to go downward from the temple, and that is without proper steps. However, this way gives you an wonderful experience. On this way you can find a temple of Shoolada Beerappa, where a huge number of tridents, that are believed to be rose from the earth, are worshipped.

Chandragutti is also well known for Trekking activities.
