Brahmavar
Brahmavar is a small beautiful town located at a distance of 14 km north of Udupi district of Karnataka state.
Brahmavar have been referred as Brahmaputr, Brahmavuar as well as Brahmara in the inscription, which suggests 'a colony of Brahmins'. It has been also mentioned "Lord Brahma's Vara or Ajapura". Brahmavar is definitely an antique cultural centre of the locality being adjacent to Barkur, which was the headquarters of Tulunadu. Brahmavar should have been a flourishing town.
The Brahmavar town is located between the Sita and Suvarna rivers which flow in the Western Ghats. As they move toward the Arabian Sea, they create a picturesque backwater that offers boating facilities to the tourists.

You can find two major church buildings in Brahmavara:
1. Holy Family Roman Catholic Church and
2. St. Mary's Syrian Catholic Church
You can also find the following three most important temples in Brahmavar:
1. The Mahalinga temple
2. Gopinatha temple and
3. Janardhana shrine within the Agrahara.
It is believed of the fact that the Mahalinga temple was built during 9th century AD. The wall of Mahalinga temple at Brahmavar is constructed by the laterite stones. You can find an idol of Gaja-Gowri, that has been kept in Navaranga, which maybe belongs to the Hoysala time. The idol is holding Ankusha and Pasha in upper hand and Padma (lotus) in right lower, and also the left lower hand is in the abhaya psoture.
The Gopinatha temple is described in an inscription that, it will be the third temple; the idol of the presiding deity is of Hoysala workmanship.
Handadi, the settlement of the Hande family is another place of tourist interest.
