Bantwal
Bantwal is one of the important town and taluk headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. Though Bantwal is a town, the neighboring township BC Road (Bantwal Cross Road) serves as the commercial center.
At an earlier time, the Bantwal town was known for trade. But, due to flooding caused by the river Netravathi during the monsoon season (June to September), forced traders to move to the adjacent township of BC Road because BC Road was situated at higher altitude when compared to Bantwal. Gradually, most of the Government departments shifted to the BC Road. The Bantwal town is still considered an main trade center for groceries, tobacco, hardware and most importantly gold.
