Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple

Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple is one of the important pilgrimage centers of Karnataka, especially for Lingayath community.
Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple is situated amid thick forest in a picturesque location of Western Ghats in Uttara Kannada (North Kanara) district. Thick forests here hold tiger, cheetah, elephant, sarang, cobra, and other wildlife.

The Samadhi of Channabasavanna, one of the most respected saints of the Lingayat faith lies here.

In the 12th century, Channabasavanna traveled from Kalyana to Ulavi before he died. Very close to this holy Samadhi is the Akka Nagalambike cave named after Nagalambike, Channabasavanna's mother and Basavanna's sister.

The annual fair at Ulavi attracts pilgrims from all over Karnataka.

How to reach Ulavi:

Nearest Airport: Belgaum, Hubli and Goa

Nearest Railway Station: Alnavar, Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum and Karwar

Road: It is recommended to travel in one's own vehicle.

From Dandeli one has to cross the river Kali to go to Ualvi. After traveling about 11 km from Dandeli you will find Patoli Cross,wherein there is an inner route via Goondh, Syntheri rocks, to Ulavi, apart from the usual route via Kumbarwada and Joida.

If you take on the Goondh route an adventurous feeling along with the nature will be felt, crossing many streams and world famous Syntheri Rocks. Here you can find the stream Kinnari Bommayya known locally as Kaneri River. Here it is a usual sight to see wild elephants, tigers and other wild beasts coming to drink water. The nature is superb and attractive.
Climbing up one steep Ghat after the other and descending, one has to traverse a maizy and meandering route and cross Joida and Kumbarawade and descend. One finally reaches to Ulavi.
