Linganamakki Dam
Linganamakki Dam, one of the major dams of Karnataka is located at a distance of 6 Km from Jog Falls near Kargal town in Sagar Taluk.
The Linganamakki dam was constructed in the year 1964 by Karnataka State Government. The length of the dam is 2.4 Km spread out across river Sharavathi.
The Linganamakki dam was designed to store 4368 million cubic meter of water in an area of around 300 kmē, submerging 50.62 kmē of wetland and 7 kmē of dry land, with the remaining alnd being forest land and wasteland. The Linganamakki dam rises to a height of 1819 feet above sea level.
The main water source of Linganamakki dam is from rainfall as well as from the Chakra and Savahaklu reservoirs, which are connected to the dam through a canal. The water from the Linganamakki dam flows to Talakalale Balancing Reservoir through a trapezoidal canal with a discharge capacity of 175.56 cumecs.
Behind the dam is a large reservoir. The discharge from the dam can be quite heavy.
The Linganamakki Dam is very huge and the dam premises is very well kept and maintained neatly. From the dam you were able to glimpse identically beautiful scene of forested islands as well as hill slopes clothed with evergreen forests.
Monsoon is the best Time to Visit Linganamakki Dam though it is raining during the season.
