Jamalabad

Jamalabad is a pleasant village is located at a distance of 75 km from Mangalore and 6 km north of Beltangadi taluk. It situated at an altitude of 1788 ft above sea level.

Jamalabad was formerly called as Narasimha Ghada. It is also referred locally as 'Jamalagadda' or 'Gadaikallu'. This place is well-known for an antique fort constructed by Tipu Sultan in 1794, who named it after his mother Jamalbee. The Jamalabad fort was captured by the British in 1799 during the 4th Mysore war. Legend has it that those out of favor with Tipu were hurled down this fort to their death.

Currently, Jamalabad is a trekking spot, with the climb up to the fort being classified as 'medium difficulty level' and the top of the fort provides good views of the surrounding scenery and the Kudremukh range.

Officially entry to the Jamalabad fort is restricted to between 6 AM and 6 PM. Overnight stay at the Jamalabad fort is not allowed. The hill has only one room on top of it. It is not one of the tourist attractions but is a good spot for exiting trekkers.

Trekkers are advised to carry sufficient of water since there is no drinkable fresh water available on top.
